Apple Launches New iPhone SE to Compete in Mid-Range Market

Apple is unveiling the fourth-generation iPhone SE, its updated low-cost model, aiming to strengthen its position in the mid-range smartphone segment. The new SE will likely feature a modern design without the home button, Face ID, camera and processor improvements, and AI capabilities. It will also adopt USB Type-C charging to comply with EU regulations, replacing the Lightning port.

The previous iPhone SE, released in 2022 and priced at $429, is expected to be replaced by a slightly more expensive version. Analysts believe that if the SE 4 includes significant design and performance upgrades, it could boost its appeal and Apple’s competitiveness across different price levels.

Although the SE’s share in overall iPhone sales has dropped from 10% in 2016 to just 1% in 2024, Apple hopes this new release will revive interest. The company is also planning a broader rollout of AI features in the coming months, despite analyst concerns about their short-term impact on sales.
