Protest in Nicosia Calls for Permanent Ceasefire in Palestine

A protest was held on Saturday at Eleftheria Square, calling for a permanent ceasefire in Palestine.

According to a statement by the activist group United for Palestine (UfP), demonstrators demanded action against the renewed calls for ethnic cleansing in Gaza and the increasing aggression toward Palestinians in the West Bank. Organizers emphasized that the peaceful protest aimed to end the occupation, violence, and what they described as Cyprus’ complicity in the ongoing atrocities against Palestinians.

Protesters also called for unrestricted access to humanitarian supplies to address the crisis resulting from what they referred to as genocide.

They held banners in Greek and English, demanding the release of Palestinian doctors and humanitarian workers allegedly being held hostage by Israeli occupation forces. Protesters also urged the Cypriot government to cut economic, political, and military ties with Israel. Additionally, they condemned the continued expansion of illegal settlements in the occupied West Bank and denounced recent statements made by former U.S. President Donald Trump supporting the forced displacement of Palestinians from Gaza.
