Amendments with penalty points from traffic cameras

Amendments with penalty points from traffic cameras

The Plenary of the House of Representatives of Cyprus voted today to extend the payment period for out-of-court fines to three months and the Ministry of Transport also agreed with the passage of the proposed law.

More specifically it provides for three main amendments. The first one, an extension of 90 days is given for the settlement of the out-of-court fine. The starting point of the deadline will be the date of service of the out-of-court fine and not the date of its issuance, which is in effect today. In the event that the out-of-court fine is not paid within 90 days, it will be increased by 50%.

Secondly, an extension of 105 days is also given for the criminal prosecution of a person who has not paid his out-of-court fine.

Lastly, an amendment of the Traffic Offences (Use of Photographic Devices and Other Related Matters) Law is introduced, so that penalty points imposed for traffic violations are time-barred after two years from the date of their imposition.
