The billionaire’s club is larger—and wealthier—than ever before. Here’s a look at who’s rising, who’s falling, who’s dropped off the list, and why it all matters now more than ever.
Record Numbers: The world now has a record 3,028 billionaires, collectively worth $16.1 trillion—$2 trillion more than last year. The average billionaire is now worth $5.3 billion.
U.S. Dominance: The U.S. leads with 902 billionaires. China (516) and India (205) follow. Donald Trump is back in office and surrounded by fellow billionaires—his inner circle includes the world’s richest man, Elon Musk.
Elon Musk Tops List: Musk is the world’s richest person with $342 billion, regaining the top spot from Bernard Arnault. He’s followed by Mark Zuckerberg ($216B), Jeff Bezos ($215B), and Larry Ellison ($192B). Arnault drops to fifth with $178B.
Wealth Boom at the Top: A record 15 people are now worth over $100 billion. Three are worth more than $200 billion. These 15 have a combined wealth of $2.4 trillion—more than the bottom 1,500 billionaires combined.
Newcomers & Notables: 288 people joined the list this year, including celebrities like Bruce Springsteen, Jerry Seinfeld, and Arnold Schwarzenegger. The wealthiest newcomer is Marilyn Simons ($31B), widow of hedge fund legend Jim Simons.
Women Billionaires: 406 women made the list (13.4% of the total). Alice Walton ($101B) is now the world’s richest woman.
Youngest & Oldest: The youngest billionaire is 19-year-old Johannes von Baumbach ($5.4B), the oldest is 103-year-old George Joseph ($1.9B). The average age is 66.
Self-Made Wealth: 67% of billionaires built their own fortunes, up from 66% last year. Alexandr Wang (28, $2B) is the youngest self-made billionaire.
Drop-Offs: 107 people fell off the list due to shrinking fortunes, including AMD’s CEO Lisa Su and Hermès heir Nicholas Puech.
Trump’s Net Worth: Donald Trump’s fortune more than doubled to $5.1 billion thanks to crypto investments and the public debut of his media company.
